Vagrant, without the terminal
Boxdeck is a desktop app for HashiCorp Vagrant. It finds every Vagrant machine on your computer and puts them in one window. Start, stop, provision and SSH in with a click, from the app or your menu bar.
Everything you do with vagrant, in one place
No new config and no lock-in. Close Boxdeck and your terminal works exactly the same.
For one machine, a selection, or a whole project.
vagrant@app:~$ uptime 10:42 up 2:13, 1 user vagrant@app:~$ systemctl is-active nginx active vagrant@app:~$
A real terminal inside the app, already in the right folder.
==> postgres: Running provisioner: shell... postgres: Running: inline script postgres: Setting up postgresql-16 postgres: Creating cluster 16/main
Cancel lets Vagrant clean up first. Password prompts re-run in a terminal.
Per-machine actions, launch at login, a notification when jobs finish.
Careful by default
Destructive actions always ask first, and every change goes through the vagrant CLI. Boxdeck never edits Vagrant's own state.
How it worksSize on disk, who uses each box, catalog search, prune with a dry run.
Vagrant.configure("2") do |config| config.vm.box = "bento/debian-12" config.vm.network :forwarded_port, guest: 80, host: 8080 end
Ruby highlighting, a backup on every save, conflict detection.
Names, groups, colors, pinning, per-project env vars and up defaults.
Let your AI agent run the VMs, on your terms
Claude, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients can list, start and inspect your machines, and run commands inside them. You decide how far they can go.
Is there a GUI for Vagrant?
Yes. Boxdeck is a free, open-source desktop GUI for HashiCorp Vagrant on macOS, Windows and Linux. It lists every Vagrant machine on your computer and lets you start, stop, provision and SSH into them from a window or the menu bar.
Does Boxdeck replace the vagrant command?
No. Boxdeck runs the vagrant you already have installed (2.3 or newer), so your Vagrantfiles and terminal workflow keep working exactly as before.
Which Vagrant providers does it support?
Any provider Vagrant supports, including VMware Desktop, VirtualBox, Docker, Hyper-V and libvirt. It is tested with VMware Desktop (VMware Fusion) and Docker.
Can AI agents manage Vagrant machines with Boxdeck?
Yes. Boxdeck includes an MCP server that is off by default. Connect Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Gemini CLI or Codex with one click, with no token to copy. You choose Read, Operate or Full access, destructive actions need your approval, and every call is written to an audit log.
Can AI agents run commands inside my VMs?
Yes, if you turn on shell access. Agents can then run commands, copy files in and out, and follow long builds as jobs. A VM with synced folders can change files on your computer, so by default Boxdeck asks you once per such VM; files agents copy stay inside the project folder.
Is Boxdeck free?
Yes. Boxdeck is free and open source under the MIT license.
Is Boxdeck made by HashiCorp?
No. Boxdeck is an independent open-source project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by HashiCorp. It ships none of Vagrant's code.
